AN INTRODUCTION TO PHILIPPINE PUPPETRY

DESCRIPTION:   A look into the different types of puppets, Teatrong Mulat’s experiences as a puppet group in the Philippines, and a mini-workshop on puppet-making.
MATERIALS NEEDED: (please bring any of the following items)
- yarn, art or colored paper
- old/unused buttons
- toilet paper roll/cardboard/used cartolina/folder/box of toothpaste
- plastic cup/bottle
- brown paper bag
- any material you can recycle

BIO – AMIHAN BONIFACIO-RAMOLETE
Amihan Bonifacio-Ramolete, a member of Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas since 1977,  is Company Manager and Senior Puppeteer of the group. An Associate Professor of the Department of Speech Communication and Theater Arts, she teaches speech communication and theater courses and is currently taking her PhD in Philippine Psychology at the University of the Philippines.  It’s interesting to note that her whole family—husband, Raymund, and children Aina (11 years old) and Roel (8 years old)—is actively involved in Teatrong Mulat which was founded by her mother, University Professor Emeritus Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio.

Amihan is currently training and mentoring the CBT Collective in the art of puppetry and the creation of “total theatre”.  This has been made possible by the Canada Council for the Arts.
