b current is a youth focused, not-for-profit arts company, which presents and supports performance works from the Canadian and international Black Diasporic Communities. Our Toronto-based company focuses on developing and presenting material often only seen outside of mainstream and even contemporary alternative venues.
What is rAiz’n summer aRts
This is a three week Summer Intensive Training Program for youth 14-19 who are interested in performance arts. The program has in-studio style workshops where youth are introduced to the roots and contemporary elements of Black theatre practice and the world of theatre in general.
What will you be doing?
As Coordinator of the rAiz’n Summer aRts Project, you will have duties such as: recruiting and organizing auditions/interviews for interested youth, researching and booking venues & trips, liaising with facilitators, purchasing and preparing materials and other necessities, ensuring smooth running of the program and the workshops, organizing and attending in and out-of-town field trips and other community activities; be a contact person for staff, facilitators, participants and community partners in regards to the program, submit a final report, and generally ensure the success of the program.
About the job
This is a contract part-time position from July 6 – Sept 4/09
Length of project is 8 weeks, with approx 30hrs/week @ $9.50 per hour; and you must have been enrolled in school as a full time student in the previous year, with the intent to enroll next fall.
What Skills do you Need?
- Solid project coordination abilities including creating and implementing critical paths
- Sound financial reporting (must be able to manage money and record/report on all expenditures)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent time management
- Relating well with people in all kinds of work/social situations
- Versatile functioning with MS Word and Excel documents
General Qualifications
- Must have Project Coordination experience at a professional or community level
- Should have some experience in arts administration, events management, production management or project management; some post secondary is an assert.
- Must have some knowledge of/be familiar with the arts & culture industry or not-for-profit work environment.
