TAPA Membership: Discount Tickets to Smile, Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts

The graduating students of Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts are performing in their final production of the college program at the end of July. RAPA would like to offer a ticket discount to TAPA members of $11 a ticket (that’s a 50% savings), available day of the show at the box office; to redeem, purchasers just need to identify themselves as TAPA members.

SYNOPSIS: Smile is a wickedly funny musical send-up of beauty pageants with music by award-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line, The Goodbye Girl) and book and lyrics by Howard Ashman (Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast). Set in the summer of 1985, Smile revolves around the backstage shenanigans of the fictional California Young American Miss Beauty Pageant. Scandal erupts as 16 contenders scheme to upstage one another in their battle for the title and pageant coordinator –- and one-time runner-up –- Brenda Freelander faces her own 30-something demons.

The Ontario Arts Council is a publicly funded arm’s-length agency of Ontario’s Ministry of Culture whose primary purpose is to award grants to professional artists and arts organizations.

The Program Assistant positions provide key administrative support to the Ontario Arts Council’s granting processes by being responsible for data entry, sorting and filing, mass mailings and correspondence, cheque requisitioning, making hotel, travel and meal arrangements for meetings, answering general inquiries by phone or e-mail, uploading information to the web, and taking notes and running audio-visual equipment during the panels, all of which needs to be completed within tight deadlines.

The ideal candidates have two to three years relevant administrative experience, thrive in a fast-paced environment, look for ways to improve on efficiency through multi-tasking, have a keen eye for detail and find this work satisfying.  This combined with the ability to communicate in a professional demeanor and work well independently as well as with others is essential.  Proficiency with Word and Excel and in verbal and written French at the advanced level is a requirement.  Knowledge and experience in the arts a plus

Salary is commensurate on experience, minimum is $37,760 annually.  We provide a comprehensive benefits package.

We do this by providing shared space and services, acting as a community centre for social innovators, and helping to launch new entrepreneurial and collaborative projects.

About the Centre for Social Innovation’s Director of Social Enterprise

This is a rare and exciting senior position at the Centre for Social Innovation. The Director of Social Enterprise has the opportunity to play an instrumental role in evolving the social enterprise space in Toronto and Ontario. We have secured funding for a part-time contract, but the right person will turn this into a full time position and will quickly grow a social enterprise program for Toronto.

The Director of Social Enterprise will assume responsibility for the delivery of the Enterprising Non-Profits Program (www.socialinnovation.ca/enp). ENP is a social enterprise capacity-building and granting program created to seed and support social enterprise.

The Director of Social Enterprise will also assume responsibility for planning the development of a social enterprise incubator in Toronto. If successful, this incubator will weave together existing programs and introduce new initiatives that fill gaps and support the needs of Toronto’s emerging social enterprise sector.

We seek an extraordinary individual who is part left brain and part right brain, part project manager and part entrepreneur.

Practically, the Work Responsibilities:

  • Deliver the ENP-Toronto 2009 Program
  • Liaise with funders
  • Promote the program
  • Plan and deliver social enterprise skills training workshops
  • Support funding applicants
  • Develop a post-grant coaching program
  • Lead a program evaluation strategy
  • Fundraise for 2010 and beyond
  • Lead the development of a comprehensive social enterprise incubation program
  • Deliver and coordinate the delivery of workshops seminars and coaching services
  • Liaise with potential investors in the incubator
  • Assist social enterprises to thrive
  • This project is still in its start up phase, thus it will take whatever it takes

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience managing a social enterprise – experience on both the nonprofit and business side will be essential
  • Project management skills
  • Presentation and communication skills
  • Capacity to handle a million things
  • Enthusiasm and energy
  • Fundraising experience
  • Sound judgment and comfort working autonomously
  • A low-stress attitude in a complex environment
  • Willingness to do whatever it takes…Zero attitude!!
