Internship: Publicity Intern, DW COMMUNICATIONS

DW Communications is a boutique PR agency that specializes in Toronto arts and entertainment: primarily theatre, dance and music as well as festivals. An intern would receive valuable hands-on experience with many of Toronto’s most highly regarded and vibrant theatre and dance companies.

We are currently seeking a Publicity Intern for a 3-month commitment with a $100 a week honorarium to join our team.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and speaking skills, be computer savvy, detail oriented, accustomed to multi-tasking and passionate about the performing arts. The candidate would also have exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to work well under pressure and able to prioritize tasks.

  • Office administration
  • Web 2.0 and more.

Further Info:

Candidates must commit to starting sometime in October and work through most of December (excluding Christmas period). The preferred start date is October 3 but that is flexible.

The hours are Monday – Friday 10am to 6pm, with occasional evenings and weekends to attend at events.

An honorarium of $100 a week is offered.

Workshop: Building a Vocal Warm-Up;Preparing the voice for performance, Artists’ Health Centre Foundation

This encore presentation is designed to help performers develop an individual vocal warm-up. Participants will explore ways to prepare the voice for performance, and through experience, determine the exercises that best suit their needs. Emphasis will be placed on the following topics:

  • Tension release and body awareness
  • Breath
  • Vocal range and sound
  • Resonance and articulation

Lori Holmes (B.Sc.CD; M.Sc.) is a highly respected speech-language pathologist with over 20 years of experience, integrating a solid background in science with practical experience in training the voice.  Since 2001 she has had the joy of combining her love of theatre with her love of voice at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and has since become an integral part of the coaching team. In London, her private practice, WellSpoken, provides expertise in communication and speaking skill enhancement, accent reduction and rehabilitation for injured voices. A dynamic speaker, she provides workshops in voice care and training for various professionals throughout Ontario. She currently teaches the graduate course in Voice and Voice Disorders to speech-language pathology students at The University of Western Ontario. She regularly lectures to the otolaryngology residents at the Shulich School of Medicine and is the speech-language pathologist at  The Vocal Function Clinic, London Health Sciences Centre. She is a guest presenter with the Artist’s Health Centre in Toronto providing workshops and lectures to professional artists and students in training.

Job Posting: Front of House Supervisor, Al Green Theatre

Position Type:  Contract

Hours: 60-80 hours between October 30-November 21 depending on availability. Shifts will take place on weeknights and Wednesdays during the day. Preference will be given to those able to work days.

Purpose:

  • To represent the Al Green Theatre, the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre and its clients by providing impeccable customer service to all patrons.
  • To provide advice and guidance to all clients and patrons to ensure that they have the most pleasurable experience possible.
  • To be an active and positive contributor to the Al Green Theatre team in its mission to exceed expectations of both its clients and patrons.

Responsibilities:

  • To uphold Al Green Theatre policies.
  • To represent theatre management and remain onsite throughout the presentation.
  • To liaise with event organizers and assist in the smooth operation of the event.
  • To supervisor ushers.
  • To maintain the theatre before and after the show.
  • To co-ordinate the opening and closing of the theatre to patrons.
  • To liaise with the technical staff and assist with the presentation of the event if required.
  • To ensure safety of the audience during screenings.

Qualifications:

  • Previous Front of House experience
  • Supervisory experience in a customer service setting
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word
  • Quick problem solving skills
  • Other front line public relations experience
  • Mature attitude
  • Flexible schedule
  • Works well with others
  • First Aid & CPR certified considered an asset
  • Theatre background a strong asset
