Workshop: Voice Workshops with David Smukler, Equity Showcase Theatre

EST is very proud to offer you Voice Workshops with David Smukler. David is one of the leading voice teachers in North America and has been committed to offering workshops with EST for almost 30 years. Mr. Smukler is also the Director of Canada’s acclaimed National Voice Intensive. David’s workshops are divided into two levels:

Level 1 is for those who are new to studying with David and who wish to acquire a secure understanding of the techniques and process David uses. We refer to this as the Introduction level.

Level 2 tends to be attended by those who have studied with David before and who wish to continue to take care of their vocal instruments on an ongoing basis. Level 2 is primarily attended by professional actors and artists and operates from a more advanced place. We refer to this as intermediate/advanced.

The Introduction class is ideal for artists who feel they have had not had enough voice training, who are new to David’s method, who are pursuing a career in the performing arts or for those in need of vocal training for their specific professions. In addition to working with 1000′s of artists, David has also worked through his introductory level with individuals involved in public speaking, radio, broadcasting, politics, and business and executive professionals.

Tuesdays 7 to 9:30 p.m. beginning January 25th to March 22nd

Shiatsu is based on the application of pressure to specific points on the body, and is used for relaxation, stress relief, injury prevention and to treat a variety of conditions. How we address stress determines the impact it will have on our bodies and minds. This new workshop will help you take control of your own health and well-being, and will discuss:

  • Effects of stress on your health
  • Strategies for managing stress
  • Self-shiatsu techniques

Leisa Bellmore has been helping people to regain and maintain their health using shiatsu therapy for nearly ten years. A firm believer in the need for each of us to take responsibility for our health and well being, she enjoys giving clients the tools they need to take an active role in their health care. Leisa joined the Artists’ Health Centre in June of 2010, but has been working with both performing and visual artists for many years. She is currently working on a book on self-care for musicians. She has been active in promoting natural health practices through her volunteer work on the board of directors and as President of the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada. She also volunteers at Toronto’s Ronald MacDonald House where she offers shiatsu to families with children coping with life-threatening medical conditions. Leisa’s background in theatre and film provides her with a first-hand understanding of the stresses and pressures of a life in the arts.
