Thesp presents the first annual SOUND IT OUT a sampling of Toronto’s indie theatre
OVER A DOZEN WRITERS WILL SHOWCASE NEW PROJECTS IN DEVELOPMENT AT THE FIRST-EVER SOUND IT OUT – JUNE 4, 2011 AT THE TORONTO FREE GALLERY.
APRIL 28: Sound It Out is an action-packed day of theatre, featuring a diverse line-up of the most exciting young writers in Toronto, including Johnnie Walker and Morgan Norwich (the team behind last summer’s Redheaded Stepchild and A Maude-Lynn Evening) Craig Henderson of WORKhouse Theatre, Dan Daley, Christopher Douglas, Kate Fenton (The Quickening Theatre), and Cue6 Productions’ Sarah Illiatovitch-Goldman and Jill Harper (The Guilty Party, Guns and Waffles).
From new musicals, to absurd comedy and stark one-person shows, Sound It Out has something for everybody – it takes new work out of the traditional presentation space and allows audiences to sample what the Toronto indie scene has to offer and makes a space for audience and artists to meet in a casual setting.
Artists will present short (10-30 minutes) excerpts of their latest projects; audiences can stay for the whole day and see all eight new works, or come and go as they please. There will also be musical interludes from the lovely Joel Battle and an all-grilled-cheese barbecue.
Founded in 2010 to support the work of independent theatre companies in Toronto, Thesp is taking on a new initiative designed to introduce local audiences to the work that will soon hit a stage near them. We are committed to constantly building supports for emerging artists, and will announce a new slate of programs in June, 2011.
