Job Posting: Artistic Producer, The Canada Dance Festival

The Canada Dance Festival (CDF) is seeking an Artistic Producer who will bring to life our newly revised Mission and Vision, and possess the savvy creativity to develop an artistically exciting program for our wide and varied audiences. Our Mission is to present, advance and celebrate Canadian Dance excellence. CDF’s Vision is to ignite passion, inspire creativity and unify community in support of dance in Canada.

Since 1987, the CDF has been a national leader in commissioning original work and presenting the best in Canadian dance, and has been the catalyst for countless national and international tours. In June of 2012, the CDF Society will be celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary, once again featuring exciting commissioned works and world premieres. This signature event sets the stage for profiling Canada’s most contemporary, innovative and leading edge choreographers, companies and individual artists. THE CANDIDATE:
Reporting to the Board of Directors of the Canada Dance Festival Society and working in close collaboration with the Administrative team, the Artistic Producer directs the overall artistic programming and production of the CDF. The CDF is seeking a dynamic, experienced and passionate individual who will focus on excellence in artistic programming and relationship development, as well as possess a strong entrepreneurial talent that will allow him/her to demonstrate expertise in event and financial planning and reporting, and general administration. The Artistic Producer will possess strong competencies in understanding the arts scene in Canada and internationally, interpersonal relations, negotiations and problem solving, and embody the following skills and experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience managing an artistic program or organization, preferably focussing on dance;
  • Excellent knowledge, network and wide experience with the Canadian Dance scene;
  • Demonstrated excellent management and administrative/operational skills including: strategic and program production planning, budgeting & financial management, fundraising, human resource management, policy development, and project management;
  • Strong experience working with professional production venues, staff, artists, trade unions, etc.;
  • Proven ability to produce a festival, series or similar event, develop creative programming for a wide variety of audiences and implement sound marketing and communication strategies which produce results;
  • Strong leadership abilities to organize, coach, develop and motivate staff and volunteers; and
  • Tactful and diplomatic personality with an ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with dance companies, performers, partnering organizations, funders, government, and other relevant stakeholders.

Event: Free Concert Series in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre, Canadian Opera Company

The Canadian Opera Company kicks off the 2011/2012 season of it its wildly popular Free Concert Series in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre on Sept. 20, 2011 at 12 p.m.  The series opens with annual audience favourite Meet the Young Artists, featuring the rising stars of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio in a program of their favourite operatic arias.  Inaugurated in 2006, the 10-month festival of concerts and dance events attracts 15,000 people annually to the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, showcasing hundreds of artists from Canada and around the world.

Job Posting: Stage Door Supervisor, The St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts

Position: Stage Door Supervisor
Department: Production
Reports to: Director of Production
Hours: Flexible requiring on average 30 + hrs per week
Contract: 4 Month Contract
Wage: $15.00 per hour

The St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts is seeking a conscientious and motivated individual to be a part of the Production Department. This opportunity is for a 4-month contract position requiring on average 30+ hours per week. The Stage Door Supervisor will monitor and support all activities at the Stage Door entrance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain positive image of the St. Lawrence Centre through contacts with clients and performers
  • Monitors all activities at the Stage Door entrance and is knowledgeable about current events taking place in the facility
  • Logs all deliveries, contacts the receiving parties, secures lost and found items according to procedure
  • Operate switchboard and performs receptionist duties as necessary
  • Responsible for daily sign in/out procedures for all performers, crew and visitors entering stage door
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned
  • Deal with crowd control in the backstage area
  • Lock up Back stage areas if required
  • Schedule, supervise and train casual Stage Door Staff

Skills, Knowledge, Ability
Strong communication skills; ability to work in a potentially high stress environment in a calm, professional manner; and ability to work independently. Experience in customer service or security work preferred. Arts background or interest a plus.

Series 8:08 Alternative Technique Class (ATC) Program invites dance artists, both emerging and established to apply for a training scholarship for our 2011-12 ATC Season.
Scholarships will cover full participation in workshops by Margie Gillis, Susie Burpee, Shannon Cooney, Lee Su-Feh, Eryn Dace Trudell, Nathan Dryden (SRT/low-flying trapeze), Yves Candau, and 2 companies showing work at Harbourfront this season. Job Posting: Audience Service Representatives, Canadian Stage

OVERVIEW
Canadian Stage is looking for outgoing, high-energy individuals with some sales experience who want to play an essential role in developing the relationship between Canadian Stage and its audiences.

As the primary point of contact for our audiences, you will use your sales experience to facilitate the sale of tickets and receipt of donations, while providing the highest level of customer service.
Some knowledge of ticket software is an asset but is not essential. It is expected that you will possess superior telephone communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

This position is paid hourly, is part time, and reports directly to the Audience Services and Sales Managers, and indirectly to the Audience Services Supervisors.

DUTIES

  • Increasing revenue through inbound and outbound sales.
  • Processing single ticket and subscription sales as well as ticket exchanges for Canadian Stage subscribers.
  • Reconciling daily sales/float and running end of day reports.
  • Maintaining an intimate knowledge of Canadian Stage’s programs and promotions.
  • Actively working to resolve customer service issues and complaints, with the main goal of pleasing the customer and maintaining the reputation of the company.
  • Distributing tickets on performance days at either of our box office locations.
  • Keep the box office area neat, tidy, and presentable at all times, including the display of marketing materials.
  • Building ticket packages for mail out.
  • Sorting and distributing mail at the Berkeley Street Theatre.
  • Assisting other Canadian Stage staff with any additional ticketing requirements.
  • Occasional data entry tasks, reception, and other duties as required.

Hours of work may be scheduled during the following periods:

  • 9 am – 9 pm, Monday to Thursday;
  • 9 am – 8 pm, Friday and Saturday;
  • 9 am – 5 pm on Sundays.

We are now accepting applications for the 2011-2014 rAiz’n Ensemble sessions.

The rAiz’n Ensemble is open to emerging artists who are seriously considering or actively working on a professional career in performance.

The Ensemble program focuses on performance, building a professional network for emerging artists, and expanding actors’ scope into areas such as playwrighting, creation, directing, and producing. Toward this, we accept actors, spokenword artists, singers, dancers, and any performer who wants to expand their career horizon, and especially want to integrate into working on the wider local performance scene.

Members register for the 3 year cycle paying a fee during each year (bursaries are available); and participate in regular facilitated explorations, group and individual creation & networking activities, research and special performances, all furthering skills & practical artistic knowledge.

To gain entry to the rAiz’n Ensemble program, potential members must auditon by submitting an artistic resume which clearly outlines any past experience and training & a current photo; then book an audition time.  After the auditions, all shortlisted artists must attend an open workshop, plus submit an artistic statement before being accepted for registration.

Submission DEADLINE: Wednesday September 7, 2011 at 5:00PM. Successful applicants will be contacted on Thursday September 8, 2011 to confirm audition time.
