The Dancer Transition Resource Centre is turning 25, and is celebrating with panache at the legendary Imperial Room, with VIVE LA DANSE 25.
On Wednesday, October 26th, in the historic Imperial Room at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Sheila McCarthy and Geraint Wyn Davies will host a dynamic evening of entertainment and epicurean treats to mark the Dancer Transition Resource Centre’s 25 triumphant years of transforming dancers’ lives and facilitating their transitions into, within, and from professional performing careers.
Throughout the evening performances will feature Canadian superstars from dance, music and theatre including: dance luminaries Aleksandar Antonijevic, Guillaume Coté, Greta Hodgkinson, Heather Ogden, Laurence Lemieux, Bharatanatyam dancer Atri Nundy, and the (oh so hot) urban Gadfly Dance Company; musical icons John McDermott, Dave Young and Jackie Richardson; and stage stars’ piano man David Warrack (also the evening’s Musical Director), Stratford Festival’s Robin Hutton and Billy Elliot’s Kate Hennig.
Beginning in childhood, dance is one of the most demanding professions. Dance pushes the limits- physically, emotionally and financially-making transitions inevitable. The Dancer Transition Resource Centre (DTRC) works with professional dancers on an individual basis, providing compassionate support and practical services focusing on all stages of their career. The DTRC’s goal is to ensure that dancers have the tools to reach their potential while performing; prepare in advance for life after dance; and pursue meaningful and fulfilling second careers when a life on stage is no longer possible.
Dedicated to dancers since 1985, and a trail-blazer in career transition, the Dancer Transition Resource Centre is a leader at international conferences and research initiatives, and helps drive change both within and beyond the dance community. During the past 25 years, more than 10,000 dancers have accessed the DTRC’s unique transition programs and have forged on to a remarkably wide and productive range of careers.
VIVE LA DANSE 25 promises to be a effervescent evening combining awareness and fundraising with jubilant performances by beloved Canadian artists; with dazzling, high flying auction items such as diamond earrings; tickets and backstage access to a taping of “Battle of the Blades” and a personal coaching session from Shae-Lynn Bourne; and Dinners with Dancers including Rex Harrington or Heather Ogden and Guillaume Côté.
