POSITION TITLE:             Development and Sponsorship Officer
HOURS PER WEEK:          20 hours per week/Part-time Flexible

Shakespeare in Action is Canada’s Leading Professional Classical Theatre Company for young audiences. For over 23 years, we have developed unique theatre practices to help activate young people’s enjoyment and understanding of Shakespeare’s language and plays.

The Development and Sponsorship Officer will be a primary contributor to the success of the company.  This position is suitable for someone who has already commenced a professional career in the areas of development and sponsorships. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record as a revenue generator with experience writing successful grants in Canada. The incumbent should be familiar with the goals and objective of TYA organizations and should have a deep love for Shakespeare. This is a part-time position and affords a great deal of flexibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working closely with the General Manager and in collaboration with the Artistic Director, the Development and Sponsorships Coordinator will create and implement a strategy for growing the organizations revenue sources through grant writing, sponsorship development and developing an individuals giving plan.

The successful candidate will engage and build relationships with corporations, individuals, foundations and other organizations through the successful acquisition, management and stewardship of sponsors and partners. She/he will utilize and build on existing development/sponsorship plans by identifying opportunities for support, as well as by creating strategies to gain and enhance the interest and involvement of potential sponsors, partners and other supporters.

  • Prepare and write all fundraising materials and grant applications.
  • Coordinate and plan fundraising and donor events including The Shakespeare Challenge and Sonnets by Kids.
  • Liaise with Board members about events and fundraising strategies.
  • Work with the General Manager and Artistic Director formulating development objectives and strategies.
  • Track, report and contribute to expense/revenue budget management.
  • Provide tracking and reporting to all donors and foundations as required.

QUALITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree/advanced certificate training in development or significant experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years professional experience in development and/or corporate sponsorships.
  • Must have a successful track record securing grants and sponsorships.
  • Must be focused on revenue generation.
  • Must have great presentation skills.
  • High level of comfort with computer systems, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Photoshop (PC and Mac platforms).
  • Experience working with board of directors, donors, patrons and sponsors.
  • Experience managing and coordinating volunteers.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Special event coordination experience.
  • The applicant must be a team player, able to work in a creative but sometimes chaotic environment.
  • Must love Shakespeare.
  • Must be fully dedicated to the goals of TYA company.

Situated on Toronto’s waterfront, Harbourfront Centre is renowned as Canada’s foremost facility for contemporary culture.  Our year-round operation offers some 4000 internationally acclaimed events ranging from music, literary and theatrical festivals to children’s activities and craft shops.

Currently an opportunity exists in our Community and Educational Programmes department for an Administrative Assistant, Events position. This position will report to the Festival Lead for tasks identified as overall festival administration and day to day work flow.  The position will also report to and be supervised by the Project Coordinator and/or Department Administrator for satisfaction assessment, review of balance of overall workload and review of working relationships.  The Event Assistant will assist with the planning and the implementation of the summer festivals and events (e.g., Hot & Spicy Festival, Canada Day, and Island Soul).  The Administrative Assistant will liaise with the Music Assistant to ensure clear communication and coordination of information.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Research/Programming:

  • Research potential artists, groups and programming ideas via internet, mail, fax, email and phone
  • Assist Director, CEP with specific research initiatives
  • Brainstorm around programming ideas and creative presentation ideas – coordinate programme components with supervision

Administration:

  • Consolidate and distribute interdepartmental documents (production, marketing, volunteer, signage and transportation overviews by liaising with music assistant and others). (with Festival Lead)
  • Attend meetings for events, festivals and others (with production staff, artists, and some festival’s advisory committee).  Takes minutes and action items as required
  • Assist in drawing up contracts for cultural programming.
  • Acquire artists’ contracts, CVs, bios, documentation etc. and develop contact lists for production team and publicity team. (with Cultural Programmer)
  • Arrange for any artist accommodations, transportation, hospitality and parking for cultural programmes (with Cultural Programmer)
  • Assist programmers with ordering, purchasing and distributing all program materials
  • Assist in festival set up and strike.  Generate thank you letters for the artists, partners and consulates involved in the festival
  • Assist with the management of projects on site and with post-project evaluations
  • Assist with other administrative tasks as needed by the department

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrolment in or completion of post-secondary degree in arts, business and/or office administration is considered an asset
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
    • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, and database management
    • Previous camp experience an asset
    • Vulnerable sector screening prior to June 25, 2012

Auditions: Male/Female Dancers/Actors, Ismailova Theatre of Dance

Ismailova Theatre of Dance company is looking for male and female DANCERS or ACTORS who can dance for upcoming shows including a new full-length dance/physical theatre production to be presented on May 12th at 8 pm and May 13th at 3 pm and 8 pm at Pia Bowman Studio Theatre.

Audition date: February 5th, 2012, Sunday
Time: 6:45 pm

Dancers and actors must be committed, responsible and available to rehearse 2 times a week (Sunday evening and Monday or Friday evening). Any dance background is welcome, but must be willing to learn
different dance styles including contemporary, contact improv, jazz, ballroom, traditional folk.

Ismailova Theatre of Dance was founded in April 2009. It brings theatre and dance together to express sincere feelings, tell real stories and show touching characters through original choreography. The work of dance theatre is narrative and focused on filling dance with meaning. Ismailova Theatre of Dance regularly performs on various stages of Toronto and Ontario including its sold out full length physical
theatre productions Toyland (December 2011), My Last Teacher (November 26th, 2010) and Behind the Door (May 27th, 2011).

The position is volunteer, but if the company makes money, it goes to dancers’ salaries.

Job Posting: Producer, FAWN

FAWN, a new music and opera company for emerging artists, is seeking a Producer to aid the Artistic Director and Founder in the operation of the upcoming 2012-13 season of one act operas and concerts. FAWN focuses on  emerging artists, and produces musical work that has either rarely or never been produced, and to draw the attention of young adult audiences.  The season is a mix of new classical music concerts, featuring multiple composers, and one act operas commissioned by FAWN. All positions in the company are unpaid at the moment, though one of the many goals of the position is to help FAWN gain financial stability. The chosen candidate will also be given the title of Co-Founder, as this person will work in collaboration with the Artistic Director and Founder to develop FAWN into a self sustaining company.

In partnership with the Artistic Director and Founder, the Producer will:

  • manage the financial aspects of the company
  • aid the artist director in fundraising.
  • develop a marketing and advertising strategy for the upcoming season and individual events.
  • scout out new, interesting and affordable performance venues.
  • discover emerging talent to be part of the creative team for specific productions.
  • research grants and construct proposals
  • understand the legal responsibilities of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in musical and theatrical creation projects.
  • Experience in arts administration.
  • Experience in marketing and advertising.
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Integrated in the new music/opera, or theatre communities in Toronto.
  • Eager to be part of the development of a young company.
  • Supportive of emerging artists.
  • Understanding of young adult audiences (ages 20-35).
