Dancemakers is pleased to offer two 6-day creation residencies to Toronto-based choreographers and performance makers needing space and time to further their creative process.
Deadline: 5pm March 19
Participants will be selected through an application process based on the rigour and scope of their proposals.
Although we invite all professional choreographers to consider this opportunity, we will be making the selection through the lens of Dancemakers 3C’s: contemporary, cross-disciplinary and collaborative engagement.
The primary applicant can be an individual, collective or company and successful applicants will reflect at least one of these values in their practice.
The residencies will take place simultaneously from July 16 to 21, 2012, one in the main space (54′ x 36′) and one in the Michael J. Baker Studio (30′ x 30′).
Each residency will provide:
- 24/7 exclusive access to one of two studios, shared greenroom and kitchen
- Ability to leave all belongings in the space for the duration of the residency
- Access to TV monitor, DVD player, sound system (CD and iPod dock)and Wi-Fi in each studio
- Comfortable, air-conditioned, well-lit, clean spaces with sprung floor
- Each residency primary applicant will receive a $500 fee.
This is not an invitation to use the space on a casual basis throughout the six days; applicants must be proposing an intensive usage for which an extended period of time is essential to the successful growth of their project.
Please note that this is a creation only residency: no access to technical equipment will be provided. Some equipment (i.e. video projector) may be rented from us based on availability or sourced and paid for through a secondary provider. If the artist/company wishes to present a showing at the conclusion of the residency, all arrangements must be approved in advance by Dancemakers.
Applications should include the following:
- Name and contact information of primary applicant including email and phone number
- Artistic Statement from primary applicant (one page maximum)
- List of artists/collaborators who will be involved in the residency
- Statement of intent regarding the work to be undertaken during the residency (one page maximum)
- An indication of which studio you are applying for (main space or Baker)
- A sample of the primary applicant’s work submitted online through Vimeo or YouTube.
Only electronic applications will be accepted at michaelATdancemakers.org
