Workshop: Comedy Short Workshop Series, TOskethcfest

Part I: The Content – Developing the Concept

What makes a great concept for a web short?

It’s the first in TOskethcfest’s Comedy Shorts workshops series in conjunction with Charles Street Video.

Getting the content right is the first step in creating a truly great web short. You can have the best quality vid, with impecable sound, but those tools are wasted on a poorly conceived concept and bad writing. In this seminar, students will engage in discussion and analysis of screened samples and will learn the importance of translating stage language to film language. Students will be asked to bring in a completed scene they’d like to see as a web short for discussion.

Saturday, April 14th – 1-4pm
Charles Street Video – 65 Bellwoods Avenue
Workshop: $45.20 (Pricing includes $5.20 HST)

Falcon Powder: Playing the Scene Inside the Premise

Last year’s Best of the Fest winners Falcon Powder teach a workshop on taking scenes past their premise by focusing on dialogue and the creation of characters with clearly defined opinions, wants and needs. The emphasis will be on moving away from sketches that simply state their premise and execute it, towards discovering and playing internal beats that ground even the craziest scenes in realistic and relatable emotional arcs. Taught by Jim Annan, Scott Montgomery and Kurt Smeaton.

Some sketch and/or improv training and experience is required (equivalent to one year of training or performing experience). Inquire at info@torontosketchfest.com if you are uncertain of your eligibility for this workshop.

Sunday, April 15th – 3-6pm
The Second City Training Centre – 70 Peter Street (Lower Level)
This venue is not wheelchair accessible. Please enquire upon arrival for the specific studio number for your event.

Workshop: $45.20 (Price includes $5.20 HST)
