Workshop: Summer Theatre Intensive, Theatre Ontario

Theatre Ontario’s Summer Theatre Intensive is revving up!

If you are considering attending this year, get your application in before June 4th in order to be included in a draw (one winner only) for 2 pairs of tickets (4 tickets) to:

Our unique, week long training course beginning Monday August 13th will take place at Wilfrid Laurier Universty, Waterloo, includes accomodation  (new residence this year) , all meals, a trip to the Stratford Festival and the price of one course for the week.

The price is only $825 plus HST for Theatre Ontario members, and $865 +HST for non members.

Financial Management: Building a Strong Bottom Line

Date: May 17, 2012

Workshop Description:
Looking to increase your financial literacy in the arts sector? Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to learn hands-on techniques from experienced and influential arts managers who have helped turn projects into financial success stories. The workshop will begin with general tips and terms to assist with understanding of finances, and will then explore examples of how to focus on private and earned revenue, donor cultivation, deficit reduction, recovery from financial collapse and balancing artistic vs. management choices.

Following that, by using real case studies, participants will get the chance to walk through financial statements and analyze the financial health of an organization. Have fun with numbers while brainstorming with colleagues and take away practical tools which you can implement in your daily work. Discover the art of finance!

Technological Innovation: On and Off the Stage

Workshop Description:
As technology moves ahead at light speed, how do we keep up!? This unique and innovative workshop explores the many possibilities of opening the technological realm in the arts – both on and off the stage.  Beyond Facebook and Twitter, propel your project to the next level of innovation by integrating new and exciting marketing strategies in your work. Don’t fight technology, use it to your advantage and be creative in your administration.

Additionally, discover the endless possibilities of using technology in your craft as stages become research labs with installations, video projections and other dynamic interactive technologies. Participants will learn the ups and downs of technology, hear from experts in their field and will get a Papertronics Lunar module to make and take home.

Workshop: Fine Arts Summer Intensive, York University

students, emerging professionals and educators, offered by the Faculty of Fine Arts at York University under one cross-disciplinary umbrella. Mingle with artists of all experiences and backgrounds as you participate in engaging and thought-provoking workshops at one of Canada’s leading fine arts schools.

Exploring Physicality with D.A. Hoskins
May 25, 2PM – 5PM
Part dance, part physical theatre, this movement workshop will explore the dancer’s unique instinctual response through critically-acclaimed D. A.  Hoskins’ signature choreographic work. Accomplished professional dance artist Danielle Baskerville will lead a series of exercises in which Hoskins will coach dancers how to successfully tap into their innate physical response.

Significant focus will be placed on the importance of individual character and presence by bringing to the surface the history of what you carry and how that can inspire the choreographic process. It is the emotional makeup within the movement that best defines the uniqueness of this dance language.

Drumming Intensive with Salvador Ferreras
June 4 – 8, 3PM – 5:30PM

This is a unique program for professional players and developing artists, graduate and undergraduate students. Experience an immersion in hand drum rhythm, technique, and performance of selected traditions of world music. One week of concentrated explosive workshops/seminars/ and concert by world-renowned masters.

A comprehensive approach to the understanding and application of rhythm in a variety of cultural contexts. Small group sessions, large ensembles, master classes and seminars can be expected of this intensive. Participants experience rhythm in multicultural contexts and learn techniques of improvisation. The intensive will culminate in a grand recital at the end of the week.

Brass Camp and Masterclass with David Marlatt
July 4 – 6, 9AM – 3PM

This exciting opportunity for experienced high school and university brass players will feature workshops, masterclasses, and chamber music sessions in a three-day intensive at York University’s Accolade East facility. Led by trumpeter and composer David Marlatt of Eighth Note Publications (Canada’s foremost publisher of brass chamber music), the camp will also include performances and masterclasses by some of the country’s most renowned brass musicians courtesy of Yamaha Canada. Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba players are all welcome.

Acting for Film with Odyssey Studio
July 17 – 20, 9AM – 5PM

This 4 day intensive is designed to introduce you to the skills needed to act in film and television. Each session will be a mixture of preparation, filming scenes and critique of the work. The course will include ‘claiming the frame’, hitting marks, scene study, character analysis, and auditioning for camera. The fundamental requirement of film and television actors is to have an active “inner life” on screen. We will awaken that inner life and give students the tools to think real thoughts on camera.
