Shakespeare in Action is seeking enthusiastic college/university students or college/university graduates to volunteer in the summer acting camps!

The Shakespeare Summer Camp for Kids (7-12) will take place at Shakespeare in Action, July 3-13, 9am-4pm daily and at Swansea Town Hall, July 16-27, 9am-4pm daily.

The Shakespeare Young Company for Teens (13-16) will take place at Shakespeare in Action, July 3-20, 9am-4pm daily.

Campers work with abridged Shakespeare scripts, learn from professional actors, act, improvise, sing, design sets and costumes, and put on fantastic shows!

Summer Associates will assist Camp Directors in all areas, from warm-ups, to auditions, to casting, to group management, to overseeing breaks, to rehearsals.

Candidates must be punctual; organized; have strong communication skills; have experience working with and managing children, ideally in a camp environment; and have a proven passion for drama and theatre!

Internship: Artistic Programs Interns, Canadian Stage

Dates: week of June 18, 2011 – week of September 24, 2012

Canadian Stage is now accepting applications for the 2 volunteer positions of ARTISTIC
PROGRAMS INTERN.

Reporting to the Artistic Coordinator, this Intern position offers an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge about running Professional Development and Creation programs which engage established theatre artists, emerging voices and youth. The successful candidate will also learn about the overall artistic activities of a large theatre organization, including casting and season programming.

A small honorarium will be provided upon completion of the internship.

Major Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting with the research and organization of projects for upcoming seasons
  • Maintaining and updating departmental resources and archives
  • Assisting in the organization of actor and play submissions
  • Assisting with the coordination of programs for professional artists including creation programs and the BASH! Artist Development Program
  • Assisting with the coordination of programs for emerging artists and theatre students such as The Gymnasium Emerging Artist Development Program
  • Assisting with the coordination of programs for young artists
  • Documenting artistic activities, compiling feedback, and contributing to the reporting and evaluation of programs

The Intern will have opportunities to participate in artistic program planning and visioning sessions and, where appropriate, to develop leadership skills in the implementation of new initiatives.

The Canadian Stage Artistic Programs Intern must commit to 18-24 hours per week. Schedule
can be flexible.

Ideal Personal Qualities:

  • Interest in theatre creation and producing, artistic development and casting
  • Passion for the performing arts and a working knowledge of Toronto’s professional theatre scene
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Full training is provided, but the successful candidate will at times work independently on assigned projects and therefore must be a self-starter
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • High level of computer proficiency (MS Word, MS Excel, and internet research experience preferred)
  • Experience in leadership roles and desire to improve leadership skills
  • Previous office administration experience and previous creation experience are assets
  • Fluency is multiple languages is an asset
  • Being enrolled in a course of study that involves interning at an arts organization is considered an asset but not required

Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival presents The 5th Annual Sketch Com-Ageddon Competitors Announced!

The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival presents the fifth annual Sketch Com-Ageddon, a five-night sketch comedy competition where 47 new and established troupes fight it out to the death, at Comedy Bar, June 12-16, 2012.

After nine whirlwind rounds of funny, the Sketch Com-Ageddon winner will receive a guaranteed spot in November’s Eighth Annual Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival (TOSketchFest), a cash prize, and comic supremacy!

Several award-winning troupes will compete for the championship title including 2011 Tim Sims Encouragement Award winner British Teeth, 2008 and 2011 Steam Whistle Brewing Producers’ Pick Award-winners Jape and Vest of Friends, and the 2010 Sketch Com-Ageddon champs Smells Like the 80s.
