Interpretive Practice: The Interactive Workshop of Have I None

Over three days, Edward Bond will work in studio with Director and long-time Bond enthusiast David Jansen, a creative team of three actors and a scenic designer in a workshop exploration of Bond’s striking play. Jansen and the team will have prepared a staged workshop production, and then open up their process to Bond.

Bond and the creative team will explore practices and methodologies for interpreting and performing Bond’s challenging text in a practical hands-on investigation. The workshop process will culminate in a public showing on Saturday, June 16th at 7pm in the Tarragon Theatre Studios, followed by an open discussion.

In addition to the public showing, there are two workshop days that are open to a limited number of audience members to audit this process.  This unique opportunity is ideal for professional theatre practitioners and others with a serious interest in Bond’s work and ideology.

Have I None, first produced in 2000, is set in a late-21st-century apocalyptic landscape where human behaviour is monitored, living spaces are designated and where any emotional displays are immediately eradicated. A couple’s lives are irreversibly changed by the appearance of a disturbing stranger who questions their existence.
