For over 100 years The Wizard of Oz has given faithful service to the Young in Heart; and Time has been powerless to put its kindly philosophy out of fashion. To those who have been faithful to it in return …and to the Young in Heart …we dedicate this production.
Join us as we travel over the rainbow in this beloved family musical. Dorothy and Toto need the Wizard’s help to get home and it’s going to take all of the brains, heart, and courage they and their friends can muster to journey down the yellow brick road and past the Wicked Witch of the West to find their hearts’ desires.
ROLES TO BE CAST:
CHILDREN’S ENSEMBLE – 4 males needed
(6-10). Male. United States. A group of dreamers who gather as L. Frank Baum retells the tale of how Dorothy first went to Oz. Good singing voices needed. Some dance an asset.
The actors playing the Children’s Chorus may also play a variety of roles in various scenes including Munchkins (including the Lollipop Guild), Snow Elves, Ozians, and Flying Monkeys.
ADULT ENSEMBLE – 1 female needed, 6 males needed
(30-50). Male and Female. Oz.
Good voices needed and some solo singing may be required. Some dance an asset.
The actors playing ensemble play a variety of roles in various scenes including Dreamers, Munchkins (Mayor, Coroner, etc), Emerald City Citizens, Ghosts, Winkie Guards, and more.
AUDITION DATE:
Sunday, August 26 starting at 1:00 pm
PREPARATION:
YOUTH (Ages 6-10)
Acting – You are asked to do a select reading from “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum. This does not have to be memorized but you should be familiar with it and be able to personify each character in it. This will be made available in advance if desired.
Singing – You are asked to prepare If I Only Had a Brain as sung as in the film (no introduction). Sheet music and an accompanist will be provided.
Dancing – There will be a group movement/dance audition for youth.  Please bring comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear (e.g. ballet slippers, jazz oxfords, character heels, sturdy medium heel shoe for women).  Long hair should be tied back or worn up.
ADULTS (Ages 25+)
Acting – You are asked to do a select reading from “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum. This does not have to be memorized but you should be familiar with it and be able to personify each character in it. You may choose one of several readings to do. These will be made available in advance if desired.
Singing – You are asked to prepare two songs for the audition.  The first, one song from the show: Over the Rainbow for women and If I Only Had a Brain for men, both as sung as in the film (no introduction). Sheet music will be provided. The second, a song selection of your choice that is under 3 minutes in length.  This should be from the classic Musical Theatre repertoire (1965 and earlier). Please no Pop, Rock or Disney. Pre-1940 jazz is acceptable. An accompanist will be provided for you. You must provide sheet music for the selection of your choice in the key you wish to sing it in. The accompanist will not transpose on sight. Please no a cappella, back-up recordings, or self accompaniment on piano or other instruments.
Dancing – There will be a group movement/dance audition for adults.  Please bring comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear (e.g. ballet slippers, jazz oxfords, character heels, sturdy medium heel shoe for women).  Long hair should be tied back or worn up.
