The workshop from Stand Up Dance will focus on:

  • illuminating the solo body
  • developing tools to generate physical vocabulary
  • spontaneous choreography
  • guiding principles for crafting composition in the moment
  • and performing with scores/open floor.

We will practice seeing and listening while in motion and develop skills to build content themes and movement motifs. Participants will dance and watch.

Job Posting: Senior Communications Officer, Canada’s National Ballet School

Since its founding in 1959, Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) has garnered the highest international acclaim for excellence in the training of dance professionals. NBS graduates dance in major companies around the world, and include some of the world’s finest choreographers and artistic directors. In addition to its core professional ballet program which includes residence and academic education for students in Grades 6 through 12, and intensive dance training for post-secondary students, NBS has an esteemed teacher training program and part-time classes for both young dancers and adults. NBS is currently inviting applications for the full-time, position of SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Reporting to the Director, Marketing & Communications, the Senior Communications Officer will implement and co-ordinate a creative public relations plan that will effectively communicate, brand and publicise NBS. As well the Senior Communications Officer will support NBS’ marketing communications objectives by maintaining stakeholder awareness, both internally and externally, of NBS, its programs and activities.

Major duties and responsibilities include: Developing and implementing marketing plans for NBS programs, including developing media pitches and managing media when attending NBS events Creating and distributing press releases and monthly press report Developing and maintaining relationships with media contacts: locally, nationally, globally and pitching them appropriate stories Liaise internally with NBS departments to inform, educate and share information Manage key communication vehicles: monthly e-newsletter, bi-annual print newsletter, Assist Fund Development with key event support for Gala and Golf fundraising events Develop and implement advertising plans Liaises with, and organises NBS’ external communities with regard to special events e.g. Doors Open, Culture Days, etc.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or journalism Minimum 3 years of media and/or public relations experience in an arts-marketing environment, with specific emphasis on media/public relations and marketing/promotions Strong organizational skills complemented by well-developed interpersonal skills Superior written and verbal communication skills Established connections with media contacts and the ability to identify and develop new media relationships Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment and be accountable for results French language skills would be an asset

Successful candidates must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Police Reference Check in accordance with the School’s Child Abuse/Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy; this will be coordinated through the Human Resources Department of NBS.
