Announcement: Regent Park School of Music Needs Instruments!, Regent Park School of Music

Founded in 1999, RPSM provides high quality, affordable music education to youth-in-need in Regent Park and other high priority areas in the City of Toronto including Parkdale, Jane & Finch, Malvern, St. Jamestown, and Lawrence Heights. This year alone, we will reach more than one thousand disadvantaged youth in Toronto. Currently located in a little house on Queen Street East, our staff, faculty and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure the safety and growth of our students.

We are excited to be starting a new chapter for our community music school with our move to the new Regent Park Arts and Cultural Centre this September. The increase in students means that we require more instruments and have launched an instrument drive in partnership with Long & McQuade. We are looking for guitars, violins, cellos, percussion instruments, recorders, woodwind, brass, etc… any and all donations are welcome! Please take your instrument to Long & McQuade’s Bloor & Ossington location (925 Bloor St. W.)  for appraisal and any necessary repairs. You can leave your instrument at Long & McQuade and we will pick it up.

If you would like a tax receipt for your donation, please download and fill out the form and put it in the case of the instrument that you are donating. If you have any questions, please call 416-364-8900 or go to our website: rpmusic.org

If you don’t have a spare instrument around but would still like to help, please consider donating to our instrument drive online. Click here to go to our secure CanadaHelps page.

87% of our revenue is spent directly on our programs and ensuring the highest quality of training for our students. For private lessons, it costs $1500 to support a full year of music education for one student; this includes an instrument, faculty salary, books, sheet music, and exam / festival fees. With lesson fees as low as $1, we rely heavily on external funding to ensure that our annual operating costs are covered.

Thank you for your support and for giving the life-changing gift of music lessons to youth-in-need. We appreciate your generosity very much!
