Scarborough Music Theatre is looking for a few people to round out their terrific cast for THE WIZARD OF OZ running November 1 – November 17, 2012.
Roles still to be cast include:
HUNK/SCARECROW (20-40. Male. Oz.) The Scarecrow is an audience favorite – an open faced, earnest and sweet soul. Being only a few days old and having seen very little of the world, he has the unquestioning innocence of a small child though his appearance is modeled after a grown man. He is made up of an old worn suit a Munchkin farmer stuffed with straw and has a head made from an old flour sack with painted on features including a permanent smile that does not allow him to frown. He also wears the distinctive pointed hat of the Munchkins, battered with age. He sometimes finds his lightweight limbs and stuffed hands difficult to manage giving him an awkward, unsteady appearance. Despite his belief that he was created with no brain, he is a very clever and thoughtful fellow.
- Physical flexibility important.
- Experience in dance, gymnastics, or yoga an asset.
- Strong singing voice needed.
- Songs include If I Only Had a Brain and We’re Off to See the Wizard.
CHILDREN’S ENSEMBLE (6-10). Male. United States. Parts available include LOLLIPOP GUILD, WINGED MONKEYS, SNOW ELVES, EMERALD CITY CITIZEN and others.
- 4 boys needed in total
- Good singing voices needed.
- Should move well and have good energy
- Songs include Ding Dong the Witch is Dead (Munchkinland), Poppies, Merry Old Land of Oz, Jitterbug and Follow the Yellow Brick Road/You’re Off to See the Wizard.
ADULT ENSEMBLE – MALE (20-50). Male. Oz. Parts available include MAYOR OF MUNCHKIN CITY, CORONER, CROW, WINKIE GUARD, EMERALD CITY CITIZEN and others.
- 5 males needed
- Good voices needed and some solo singing may be required.
- Some dance an asset.
- Songs include Ding Dong the Witch is Dead (Munchkinland), Poppies, Merry Old Land of Oz, Winkie March and Follow the Yellow Brick Road/You’re Off to See the Wizard.
ADULT ENSEMBLE – FEMALE (20-50). Female. Oz. Parts available include MUNCHKIN, HEAVENLY VOICES, EMERALD CITY CITIZEN, GHOST, WINKIE SLAVE, EMERALD CITY CITIZEN and others.
- 1 female needed
- Good voice needed and some solo singing may be required.
- Some dance an asset.
- Songs include Ding Dong the Witch is Dead (Munchkinland), Poppies, Merry Old Land of Oz, Jitterbug and Follow the Yellow Brick Road/You’re Off to See the Wizard.
Auditions will be held Sunday, August 26, 2012 at SMT’s Unit, “The Estate” – 51 Estate Drive, Scarborough by appointment.
Rehearsals are at the SMT Unit, located at 51 Estate Dr., just a few moments NW of Markham Rd and Progress Ave. Rehearsals are typically held every Monday & Wednesday evening at 7:00 to 10:00 pm, and Sunday afternoons at 1:00 to 6:00 pm. You will receive a rehearsal schedule during the first week of rehearsals, however the schedule is subject to change at the discretion of the artistic staff.
Performances are at Scarborough Village Theatre, located at 3600 Kingston Rd., at the NE corner of Kingston Rd. and Markham Rd.
