Workshop: Acting for the Camera with Brenda Bazinet, Anna Hardwick

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Over six classes, the actors will be on camera from the first meet and greet to the final goodbyes, and will work on four to five scenes from film and television scripts. The following topics will be discussed and incorporated in the actual scene work:  listening, thinking, concentration, relaxation, making choices, being specific and finding yourself in the role.  The actors will learn how to relax in front of the camera, how to stop acting and start listening and how to be simple yet full of emotion.  This course is not for beginner actors but would be appropriate for actors making the transition from stage to film/television, or experienced on camera actors wanting a workout or refresher.

INSTRUCTOR: Brenda Bazinet is an actor, acting instructor and theatre director. A Gemini Award winning actor with over thirty years experience, she has appeared in over one hundred television and film productions. Credits include:  Haven, Flashpoint, Burn Up, MVP, Custody, Sins of the Father, This is Wonderland, Redemption, Puppets Who Kill, Rabbittown and A Grief Shared (Gemini Award). A four time Dora Award nominee, she has played leading roles on stages in Toronto and across Canada.  Some of her recent acting credits for the theatre include:  Death of a Salesman, The Goat, Equus (Citadel Theatre); Harvest (Persephone Theatre); Hamlet (Resurgence Theatre); Ring Round the Moon, The Wild Duck (Soulpepper); The Price (Sudbury Theatre Centre); Death of a Salesman (Neptune Theatre); End of Civilization (Factory Theatre); Leaving Home (Blyth Festival).

Brenda is a much sought after acting instructor and has taught for the acclaimed Citadel/Banff Academy, George Brown Theatre School, Ryerson University (Act II), Fanshawe College, Equity Showcase, Actraworks, Actors Workshop, Armstrong Acting Studio, Theatre Ontario and Humber College (Acting for Film and Television Program) and was the Actor Mentor for the Women in the Director’s Chair Program at the Banff Centre. She has conducted Acting for the Camera workshops in cities across Canada and served as a private coach to actors preparing for film and theatre auditions.

Brenda has directed for both independent and major companies across the country, as well as at theatre schools. Some favourite credits include The Sea (Actors Repertory Company –nominated for three Dora Awards, won Best Leading Actress), Of The Fields Lately (Sudbury Theatre Centre), and Little Women, The Musical (Assistant Director to Bob Baker, Citadel Theatre), Three Sisters, Unity 1918, Splendor in the Grass, and Problem Child (Fanshawe Theatre School). Upcoming:  Brenda will be directing The Penelopiad at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton.
