Audition: Bye Bye Birdie, Randolph Young Company

The Randolph Young Company (RYC) is holding auditions for youth performers ages 13-18 for its spring 2010 production Bye Bye Birdie on December 5 and 6.

Randolph Young Company takes a young performer’s training to the next level.  Applying the skills and techniques they learn in their classes, RYC kids perform in a musical produced at a professional level, but without the professional pressures.  Creating a safe and nurturing place from which to work, RYC is led by caring mentors with a strong emphasis placed on peer support.

ROLES – Kids aged 13-19; 35-40 performers will be cast
PREPARATION – 24-36 bars of an up-tempo Musical Theatre song (an accompanist is provided) and a 2-minute, memorized monologue, story or poem; all performers will learn a dance combination in the Group Movement

High Fidelity tells the story of a young man in “quarterlife crisis” who gets dumped by his girlfriend, has no money, a cruddy apartment, his job has no upward mobility and he can’t seem to get off the downward spiral that is taking him nowhere.  Through his love of music, he grows out of his self-centred view of the word and finds happiness.

Audition: The Letter F, Humber College

Announcing a casting call this Wednesday, January 21st at 6:00 pm at the South Campus of Humber College.

The Letter F is a short film that takes place in the 1960’s, and will be analogous to The Twilight Zone. The production will be shot on 16mm, and is a full ACTRA credit. We’re looking for males, aged 20 – 50. One character is a writer, and one is a traveling Baptist, or Mormon. PERFORMANCE DATES: April 17 – May 2, 2009

Closer is an unflinching and harsh examination of the intersecting relationships of four Londoners in the mid-1990s. Alice, an adventurous young woman, falls for Dan, a struggling obituary writer who is inspired by her frank sexuality. When their relationship levels, he meets and becomes obsessed with Anna, a successful photographer, eventually impersonating her online. This deception sparks her connection with Larry, an upwardly mobile dermatologist. The ensuing maze of affairs follows a bitter and complex path over four years as they each struggle to achieve true intimacy. Dark, funny and uncompromising, this award-winning play by Patrick Marber questions the nature of physical and emotional bonds.

  • Alice: “a girl from the town” – early to mid-twenties, stripper with a cultivated carefree manner

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Important: Alumnae Theatre is a non-union theatre company so these are auditions for non-union actors. While we love our ACTRA and Equity brothers and sisters, we can’t afford to hire you. A contemporary Received Pronunciation British accent is required for all roles. At the audition, actors will be asked to present two brief scene excerpts (an audition reader will be reading with you). A prepared monologue is not required, though actors are welcome to present one if they wish. A list of scenes has been provided at the Toronto Reference Library (5th Floor, Performing Arts Desk) and at Theatre Ontario for actors to review. Advance preparation is highly recommended. Copies of these scenes will also be available at the theatre the evening/day of the audition.

Auditions: 2009/2010 Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre, Stratford Shakespeare Festival

Auditions for the 2009/2010 Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre will be held in February 2009 in
Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto and Halifax.

The 2009/2010 Conservatory begins September 2009 and finishes February 2010. Participants are paid and offered a contract for the 2010 season. Young professional actors are sought who have completed an accredited theatre training program and who show strong potential for, and are passionate about,
classical theatre. Preference is given to those who have worked for two years after graduating.

Audition: General Audition, Shakespeare in Action

Shakespeare in Action, a multicultural repertory theatre company based in Toronto, is holding general auditions for its exciting 2009 season. We are looking for equity actors of all ages for both main-stage and in-school touring productions.
