About Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
Written by one of the world’s greatest contemporary playwrights, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead has played across the globe, been adapted into an award-winning film and is now as recognizable as the classic on which it is based. This Tony Award winning play explores the confused antics of two minor characters from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet: the courtiers, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Using his razor-sharp wit and unmatched comedic brilliance, Stoppard creates protagonists that grapple the big philosophical questions while they unwittingly fight for their lives.

Audition: Voice Actors Needed for Short Radio Play, Jason Samilski

Toronto‐based writer and sound producer looking for 3 voice actors to record a short independent radio play on May 23.

Voices needed:

  • DETECTIVE: (Male, 30 to 50): A slick‐talking cool guy (riffing on Bogart) with fast lines and sharp delivery, but who can be a little mentally off‐kilter at times.
  • CLIENT: (Female: 20 to 40): The classic “beautiful lady in distress comes to seek out the services of a private investigator” kind of thing. She knows how to put on the sob story, and speaks in a sexy, seductive voice.
  • CORONER: Male (30’s and up): The morgue authority who shares some fast talking comedic dialogue with the Detective.

The script is full of unconventional comedy, and comes with the room for much flexibility and experimentation with delivery styles and voice performance.

PRODUCTION DETAILS:
Voice Actors must be available from mid afternoon to 8 p.m. on May 23 for recording session in Parkdale (Queen and Lansdowne). Apologies for the inflexible time, but studio is already secured. *Note: Coroner character required for less time (estimate 1 hour).

I’m producing this project on a budget that would make Tiny Tim seem rich, but I can afford to provide an honorarium for your time. In lieu of a big payout, I promise to create a fun, relaxed, and enjoyable recording atmosphere, and produce a product that will make a great addition to a demo reel.

Please leave a voice message or short applicable monologue with name and contact information at 416‐604‐5994. Sorry, but if there is a high level of response, only those selected will be contacted.

For reference to my work, please feel free to listen to my last radio play at http://www.prx.org/pieces/71219

Thanks!

Auditions: Ajax, Ajax The Play

Ajax (por nobody) at the 2012 SummerWorks Festival written by Alice Tuan, directed by Zack Russell

Canada’s largest juried theatre festival will host the Canadian premiere of Alice Tuan’s critically acclaimed Ajax (por nobody)

Four people get together for a night of booze and sex, but the party quickly turns destructive in this modern take on tragedy. Part comedy, part biting social commentary, Tuan’s “unstageable” play will be given its first full-scale production at the 2012 SummerWorks Festival. The title (Ajax) refers to both the Greek hero and the household cleaner. To quote the NY Times review: “The emptiness, abuse and manipulation of these people form a terrible picture of modern hedonism – few of us will be alone if we suspect it is, in part, a portrait of us.”

Rehearsals begin mid-July, performances August 9-19.

  • ALEXANDER-male, mid to late 30s, offbeat mix of classic Greek hero and repressed loner, poetic, sensitive, quick to anger – roommate/mentor to JESSE.
  • ALMA-female, mid 30s – early 40s, modern-day Penelope, fun-loving, soulful, self-assured, jaded, friend/mentor to ANNETTE.
  • JESSE-male, early to late 20s, charismatic, attractive, cocky, but immature beneath the surface
  • ANNETTE-female, early to late 20s, boy-crazy, insecure, self-involved, oblivious

Auditions: TOP GUN! The Musical, The Lower Ossington Theatre

TOP GUN! The Musical by Denis McGrath & Scott White

In celebration of its 10 year anniversary, The Lower Ossington Theatre proudly presents TOP GUN!: The Musical.

A writer/director attempting to salvage his dying career struggles with maintaining creative integrity while adapting one of the 1980s most influential films to a musical: Top Gun. Dancers dressed as F-16′s, beach volleyball (complete with sand), overconfident but under talented actors, budgetary restrictions, and legality issues all lead to the question: will the show go on?

Rehearsals will begin April 20th, and show will open early June.

For audition, please prepare one contemporary monologue of your choosing appropriate to the character you’re interested in, and a contemporary musical theatre song showcasing your range.  Will most likely be a cappella, but please bring sheet music.  Auditions will be Saturday April 14th and Monday April 16th, with a third day to be decided.  If scheduling conflicts occur, please make a note in your application.

If you have any questions, feel free to email topgunthemusical@gmail.com.

  • BILLY [Male, 25-35]; the director of Top Gun!: The Musical. Having a very difficult time keeping everything together. Idealist, a dreamer, pushed to his limit.
  • WENDY [Female, 25-35]; the stage manager of Top Gun, and a very good one at that. Blunt, honest, the motor of the group. Often sardonic, strongly dislikes CHARLIE for the sexual tension that exists between her and BILLY. Has carried a torch for BILLY for a long time without mention.
  • THE GENERAL [Male, 35-50]; the producer of the show. A military man with an interest in the business of theatre, but lacks artistic inclinations. A powerful but fair man with a good head on his shoulders and a lot of bravado. Has worked hard and earned the respect he receives.
  • MAVERICK [Male, 20-30]; (Lead of Top Gun the movie. A leader, hot shot pilot with something to prove, and the hots for CHARLIE) Simple minded and earnest, naive. Oblivious on a large and small scale, as in current events and also his immediate surroundings. Has good intentions, but poor execution and ideas. Doesn’t have an ego, moreso unadulterated confidence. Relatively new to the world of theatre, and willing to learn.
  • GOOSE [Female, 20-30]; (Maverick’s wingman. In the film, Goose dies halfway through, propelling the second half of the plot. In the film Goose was a man, but for ‘artistic reasons’ the role has been changed to a woman.) Undemanding, often acts as the peanut gallery with Iceman, but puts her foot down when it’s important. Commited actor and strong team player.
  • ICEMAN [Male, 25-35]; (foil to Maverick. Confident tough guy who rags on Mavericks recklessness and is considered the antagonist for most of the film.) Witty, biting, very good with words and not afraid to say what he thinks. Proudly gay, into MAVERICK and enjoys browbeating him. Confident, strongly dislikes CHARLIE.
  • CHARLIE [Female, 25-40]; (lead female, romantic interest of MAVERICK and teacher at Top Gun,) Manipulative, uses her sexuality to get what she wants, domineering. A diva.  Sleeping with BILLY.  Not well liked by the rest of the company, except for THE GENERAL. Unsympathetic, struggling with her career.
