Position Description

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Working with the Manager of Fund Development and Marketing, the Communications Intern will:

  • Assist in the execution of our communications, marketing and social media strategies.
  • Research and write a comprehensive social media usage report for 2011-2012, making recommendations for 2012-2013, and reviewing the effectiveness and cost of such interfaces as Facebook and its apps, Twitter, Quipol, Pinstrest, PostPlanner, HootSuite and Shortstack.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of the 2012 21st Century Youth Creativity Challenge Marketing Communications Strategy, including the National Youth Advisory Committee’s participation in promotions and make recommendations for 2012-2013.
  • Compile contact data from various sources (Constant Contact, Giftworks, in-house lists, networks, funders and supporters) and transfer to new Sumach database, ensuring contact information is accurate and current.
  • Assist with the content for ArtsSmarts monthly electronic newsletter: research, conduct interviews, write content, collect images and document stories.
  • Perform communications-related administrative tasks plus other tasks as required.

Qualifications and Assets

  • Post-secondary student pursuing a degree in arts management, marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or a related field, with an interest in arts education and education issues.
  • Demonstrated skill in writing, proofreading, and editing content for print and the web.
  • Knowledge of the internet and social media applications as a marketing and communications tools.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment; well organized and detail oriented; creative and imaginative; and the aptitude to take initiative and work effectively in both independent and team situations.

We’re looking for two people to join us as Volunteer Assistant Editors (Internship) for an 8-month period that runs from May to December 2012.

About Mooney on Theatre
Mooney on Theatre is a recognized go-to source for information about theatre in Toronto. The fast-growing online publication focusing on theatre, was started in April 2008 with a single writer (now editor-in-chief, Megan Mooney). Since its establishment the publication has grown to include over 17 regular contributors and has an established and loyal readership.

Assistant Editors will gain experience in all aspects of the publication, including:

  • Providing regular content for Mooney on Theatre, including heavy involvement in the Toronto Fringe Festival;

The Dance Umbrella of Ontario seeks an entry level Arts Management Intern. This placement is available only to recent college or university graduates as described by Service Canada Career Focus guidelines.

Internship: Festival of Ideas and Creation, Canadian Stage

Dates: February 6 – June 1, 2012 (flexible 5 month term, approx. 16 hours per week.)

Canadian Stage is now accepting applications for the 3 volunteer positions of Festival of Ideas and Creation Interns.

Reporting to the Artistic Coordinator, these Intern positions offer an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge in programming and producing a major artistic festival that engages, excites and is widely accessible to youth, community members, emerging voices and established theatre artists from across the country. Interns will experience running professional development and artistic creation programs that engage artists across disciplines. The successful candidates will learn about the overall artistic activities of a large non-profit theatre organization, including administration, casting and season programming.
A small honorarium will be provided upon completion of the internship.

Canadian Stage Festival of Ideas and Creation Interns must commit to 16 hours per week in the months leading up to the Festival. Schedule can be flexible (within regular work hours). During the Festival (May 7-19, 2012), it would be ideal if the intern is able to increase these hours.

Festival responsibilities include:

  • assisting with scheduling and administration of festival events (including conversations, presentations and artist intensives)
  • liaising with Festival staff, guest artists, speakers, Festival Ambassadors, other interns, and participants

About the Festival of Ideas and Creation: The Festival of Ideas and Creation is an annual artistic festival, offering opportunities for professional artists locally and nationally to develop and present new work and evolve their artistic practice.
