Space for Rent: Subsidized Daily Rates in the Fringe Creation Lab!, The Fringe of Toronto Theatre Festival

The Creation Lab has launched a new daily rate for mid-to-large theatre companies. Many of our renters are emerging, indie, ad hoc groups that rent in small chunks of time at an hourly rate. However, now that the Lab has been operational for nearly 18 months, we are beginning to see that this model is not sustainable for more established companies. So, to bridge this gap, we have launched a daily, subsidized rate for larger companies. (Our indie rates still start at $6/hr.)

Neville Austin Studio (1000 square feet)

  • Daily Rate for mid-to-large arts organizations (must be non-profit) = $110
  • Regular Daily Rate (for-profit companies or corporations) = $170
  • Hourly Rate for mid-to-large arts organizations (must be non-profit) = $18/hr

PC Story Studio (500 square feet)

  • Daily Rate for mid-to-large arts organizations (must be non-profit) = $90
  • Regular Daily Rate (for-profit companies or corporations) = $130
  • Hourly Rate for mid-to-large arts organizations (must be non-profit) =$13/hr

Frequently Asked Questions about The Creation Lab:

How do I know if I’m a mid-to-large arts organization?
We consider a mid-to-large arts organization to be a not-for-profit arts organization that has operating funding. If your organization does not have operating funding, it may qualify for more highly subsidized rates. If your organization is a for-profit company, regular daily rates (as seen above) will apply.

Can we leave our belongings in the studio overnight?
Our goal is to leave the space clean and neutral for any renters that may come in during the evening/weekend when you’re not there. However if you have a larger set piece that can be tucked into a corner of the room without obstructing floor space, we can often accommodate that.

Is there secure storage?
We have three large storage lockers in each studio. (Size: 3’ x 3’ x 3’). You can bring a padlock and secure them overnight. If you need additional (limited) storage space, we can discuss renting some room in the Fringe’s storage down the hall.

Can we rent the space exclusively?
If you would like exclusive use of the space we will charge your company a higher fee to cover the rentals we could otherwise have had on those evenings. This would be a case-by-case discussion with the Creation Lab Manager.

What are the noise policies like?
The Centre for Social Innovation (the multi-use office space we are housed in) asks that we abide by a noise policy during office hours. Bookings during evenings and weekends are not affected by this policy. From 9am-6pm, Monday to Friday, we cannot take bookings that will include the following:

  • Repeated high-decibel swearing (there is a children’s storytelling company above us!)
  • Repeated high-decibel screaming or loud group vocal warm-ups
  • High impact dance, running, jumping, stomping or banging
  • Drumming and loud music

How much of the rental fee is due upon booking?
We ask that at least 50% of the contract fee is paid upfront to confirm the booking. It can be paid by cheque or Visa/Mastercard. The remaining 50% is due on the first day of the rental.

How much time do I have to cancel my booking?
If 30 days notice is given before the first day of the rental, you will receive 100% of your money back, minus a $10 cancellation fee.

 

Space for Rent: Rehearsal Space Available!, Theatre Direct

Theatre Direct’s beautiful Wychwood Theatre is available for rent as rehearsal space with weekly slots available in April, May and June 2013, for only $1000.00 per week.

This new facility is located in the Artscape Wychwood Barns just minutes from St. Clair and Bathurst.  This naturally lit 100 seat theatre is fully equipped with new theatre equipment, blackout drapes, semi-sprung hardwood flooring and fully accessible facilities.  With the bleacher seating unit retracted, the room is 28’ x 35’, with adjoining dressing room, private washroom and lobby which may be used for fittings and a green room.
