Job Posting: Director of Development, Opera Atelier

Opera Atelier is internationally acclaimed for its beautiful and historically informed interpretations of the operas and ballets of the 17th and 18th centuries. We are enjoying unprecedented support from the private sector, and seek a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to help the company build a stronger, sustainable and more vibrant era in Opera Atelier’s history.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Development raises approximately 40% of the company’s operating budget of $2.3 million. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning and execution of all fundraising campaigns including corporate sponsorship, foundation giving, individual giving, and special events. Appeals including annual operations, production building, and special initiatives are integral to this role. In addition to the immediate responsibilities you will also work closely with the General Manager and Board of Directors in creating a long-term development strategy for the organization.

The successful candidate should have:

  • a minimum of four years experience in the development field,
  • be able to manage several projects simultaneously, without compromising quality or efficiency,
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly in proposal writing and committee management,
  • strong organizational skills, a desire to work in a team environment along side fellow staff, Board members and volunteers,
  • a passion for and understanding of the arts would be considered an asset and would round out the ideal candidate.

Call for Submissions: Emerging Arts Professionals and Theatre Students

THE GYMNASIUM & GYM DAY

The GYM is The Canadian Stage Company’s new program for Emerging Arts Professionals and Theatre Students.

GYMNASIUM

  1. “place of exercise,” from L. gymnasium “school for gymnastics,” from Gk. gymnasion, from gymnazein “to exercise or train,”
  2. a place where Greek youths met for exercise and discussion.

Join THE GYM!GYM Membership is open to all Emerging Arts Professionals and Theatre Students.  Membership gives you access to GYM Sessions, our once-a-month meetings and networking opportunities, where the GYM is joined by guest artists and professionals to have in-depth conversations or workshops on aspects of theatre creation and/or production.  GYM Members also have access to the limited number of BASH! Tickets available for each Canadian Stage production and the subsequent BASH!  To apply for your GYM Membership, please contact GYM Program Director Natasha Mytnowych at nmytnowych@canstage.com with your name, address, school (current or past) and email address, in addition to a short statement expressing why you would like to be part of this special program.   GYM Members will be issued a GYM Membership Card and will receive regular GYM updates with upcoming program sessions and special offers.

GYM DAY – Saturday, October 6, 2007 from 1 PM – 7 PM
The GYM will launch this year with a special GYM DAY at Canadian Stage on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 1 – 7 PM.  GYM DAY is a day of exchange and exploration, through workshops and heated discussion, with a focus on the Vision of the Artist.  The day will conclude with a Canadian Stage Company Dinner where the GYM will be joined by Canadian Stage Leadership, Staff and Artists.  Only 30 GYM Members will be able to participate in this special day.  Participants for GYM DAY will be selected by Artistic Director David Storch, GYM Program Director Natasha Mytnowych and the GYM Team.  To apply to GYM DAY, please see the application details below.

GYM at BASH! PERFORMANCES
GYM Members are encouraged to see all of the shows in the Canadian Stage Season on our special BASH! evening.  Every show in the Canadian Stage Season has one BASH! performance, where members of BASH!, our Artist Development Program, facilitate an exciting post-show discussion about the show.  Members of the GYM can access our limited GYM tickets to this performance by emailing GYM Program Director Natasha Mytnowych as of two weeks prior to each performance, and tickets will be booked on a first-come first-served basis.  If you do not show up for your reserved ticket, you will no longer have access to this aspect of your GYM Membership.
