Event: Become A Diva For A Day Contest, Canadian Opera Company

The Canadian Opera Company’s popular Diva for a Day contest gives one lucky winner the opportunity to be wined, dined and pampered – Japanese style – with a grand prize package valued at $4,000.

The COC’s interactive contest, which closes at midnight on May 25, invites users to take a cyber journey to the new, eye-catching Madama Butterfly Historical Journey. Visitors travel behind-the-scenes through the COC archives and discover the making of this production of Madama Butterfly.  Once the journey is complete, contestants must correctly answer five COC-related questions to be randomly selected to win one of 12 diva-worthy prize packs.

Workshop: ANIMOTION 2009, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, one of Canada’s most respected puppetry arts producers, will once again offer a unique training program. Under the auspices of Mermaid’s Institute of Puppetry Arts, the four-week puppetry intensive for performers will run from August 3rd – 28th, 2009.  A limited number of participants will explore a range of puppetry styles, broadening their frame of reference and skill set. Faculty will include an outstanding roster of Atlantic Canada’s leading professionals.

ANIMOTION 2009 will take place at Mermaid’s headquarters in Windsor, NS, which is a 35-minute trip from Halifax.  Cost is $1130 (HST included). 10% discount for ACTRA and CAEA members. Volunteer: Canadian Stage TD Dream In High Park, Canadian Stage Company

Toronto’s longest-running outdoor summer theatre event is looking for volunteers. The Canadian Stage Company invites individuals 15 years and older to be a part of the 27th Annual Canadian Stage TD Dream in High Park and spend several evenings under the stars volunteering at this year’s production of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, June 26 to September 6, 2009.

The Canadian Stage Company is seeking individuals who enjoy theatre, meeting new people and looking for relevant experience to join our diverse team of volunteers. The Company is looking for greeters as well as donation, gate and hill attendants to work five shifts of their choosing, from 5:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., at the Dream site in High Park. Full training is provided.

Volunteers are rewarded with tickets to the Canadian Stage Company’s upcoming season, an Appreciation BBQ, a TD Dream in High Park volunteer t-shirt, games and prizes. Volunteering at the Dream is of special appeal to high school students as The Canadian Stage Company is able to offer the opportunity to meet required community service hours.
