St. Michael’s College, the University of Toronto, is organizing a one-day interdisciplinary symposium to provide a scientific, historical, cultural, and educational perspective on the 5 June 2012 transit of Venus, the last one visible during the 21st century, as well as to prepare us for the actual viewing of the event.
The sponsors include: University of Toronto Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics (DAA), Dunlap Institute (DI), Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IHPST), St. Michael’s
College, and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC).
To help celebrate the viewing, a performance of sections of Maureen Hunter’s play “Transit of Venus” will be produced for June 5th.
