WEEK-END WORKSHOP : February 15 & 16 : 10 am to 5 pm
Mouth puppets have entered the mainstream again.
Originally famous on TV with the Muppets, now thanks to the hit musical Avenue Q, live stage mouth-puppetry is popping up all over the country!
Puppeteer Mike Petersen spent two years on Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rock and toured for nearly ten years with Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia. He’s also Bruce the Gorilla on CBC’s The Mighty Jungle, and Binoo on Toopy & Binoo Vroom Vroom Zoom. As a teacher of puppetry, Mike has worked alongside Graham Whitehead at Mermaid Theatre, Allen MacInnis at YPT, Lynda Hill at Theatre Direct, Eric Woolfe at Eldritch Theatre, David Ferry at Toronto Masque Theatre, and Seanna Kennedy, director of the first Canadian production of Avenue Q at Lower Ossington Theatre.
During this two-day intensive, Mike will introduce the basics and drill some of the finer points of mouth puppetry performance for the stage. Lip sync, focus, body language, nuance and voice will all be explored and shared.
Do you have an important audition coming up? Learn all you need to know in this crash course with Mike Petersen! Maximum enrollment 20 people. Cost: $200
You will need your own mouth puppet for this workshop. We have them available to rent ($20) or purchase($65). These dual rod mouth puppets are professionally made by Trish Leeper who began her puppetry in 1982 playing Ma Gorg on Fraggle Rock and has since worked extensively with Jim Henson’s Muppets in numerous Muppet Specials as well as ongoing characters for CBC’s Sesame Street. They are well crafted and delightfully expressive.
