Nightwood Theatre is now accepting submissions to the 2014/15 Write From The Hip Program.
About the Program
Write From The Hip is a year-long script development program designed to support new writers through mentorship, one-on-one dramaturgy, developmental workshops and readings, all working towards the completion of a full length play that will be given a public reading with professional actors and director. We are looking for women playwrights who are emerging in their careers. There is no age limit to apply, though you are only eligible if your script has never received a professional production. You may apply with a script at any stage in development.
About the WFTH Submission/Pitch Process
In addition to our formal script submission process, we’re adding a new pitch component this year so we can sit down and meet with our emerging artistic community face-to-face. The pitch session is an opportunity for artists to introduce themselves and their proposed script in whatever way best represents them. Remember, a pitch is not a performance. It’s a conversation to discover if there’s a match between what the WFTH program can offer you as a writer, what your play needs in terms of development as well as who you are as an artist and why you want to be a part of the WFTH program.
How to Apply
Complete submission packages must be received, in hard copy form, via mail (address below), no later then Friday, May 2nd, 2014.
In order to secure a pitch slot your package must include the following:
- A $15.00 submission fee (cash or cheque – made payable to Nightwood Theatre)
- A one-page cover letter outlining your background as an emerging artist, and how you feel your project would benefit from the WFTH program
- A brief synopsis of your proposed narrative
- A writing sample of at least 10 pages, preferably from the work you are applying with.
Please address submissions to:
