Now in its sixth year, the SummerWorks Leadership Intensive Program (S.L.I.P) is a unique professional training intensive for emerging artists, placing a specific focus on the business of arts professionalism. This two-week program coinciding with the SummerWorks Performance Festival will take place August 5-17th, 2014.

The unique 13 day intensive offers emerging artists and arts workers insight into the thinking behind producing and how to approach an artistic career from a practical business perspective (please note that S.L.I.P does not place focus on performance or on auditioning). This is a one of a kind opportunity unlike any other in Canada.

Participants attend practical workshops led by the best of the best in the arts. Past points of focus have included: Professional Etiquette, Marketing, Publicity, Grant Writing, Fundraising, Touring, Financial Planning, Artistic Directing and How To Do Everything All At Once. Some past professionals who have led S.L.I.P sessions are: Philip Akin, Gideon Arthurs, Franco Boni, Pat Bradley, Derrick Chua, Ted Dykstra, Jon Kaplan, Nina Lee Aquino, Jackie Maxwell, Ross Manson, Allyson McMackon, Andy McKim, Yvette Nolan, Kelly Thornton, Leslie Lester, Laura Nanni and many more.

S.L.I.P participants are also matched with a mentor who is producing work at the 2014 Festival, and have the opportunity to see shows throughout SummerWorks. Past facilitators include Audrey Dwyer, Andrew Kushnir, Christine Horne, Richard Lee, Julie Tepperman, Aaron Willis, Maev Beaty and Alan Dilworth.

“I am really fortunate to have gone through [S.L.I.P.], I attended at a time when I had a job I liked, and the program helped me to get a career I love… S.L.I.P. helped to prepare me for a career in theatre and continues to be a source of information years later”—Jenn Sartor
