Reporting to the Senior Manager, Event Production and as a member of the Festival Venues team, the Production Manager (King Street Activation) will be responsible for the overall production and site management of programming and partner activations in the hub of
Festival Village. This will include the planning and execution of all logistics and implementation of security and safety protocols. This position will also oversee a production coordinator and support staff.

Responsibilities:
Shall include but not be limited to:

  • Oversee all on-site logistics and technical production of King Street activations
  • Oversee logistical and technical setups/tear-down activities, staging, security, signage, storage, staffing, site management, crowd management, traffic control, rentals, infrastructure management, emergency policies and procedures
  • Develop, implement and manage site plans and production schedules
  • Ensure successful execution of programming, performances and activations
  • Ensure all site infrastructure requirements in place i.e. power, facilities, emergency vehicle access, waste management
  • Collaborate with TIFF Festival departments, external partners and vendors to ensure project goals and timelines are met
  • Assist with artist logistics including technical requirements, sound checks, rehearsals, installations
  • Liaise with property owners, community partners, City of Toronto and other stakeholders regarding site setup, access and use
  • Hire, schedule, and supervise support staff
  • On-site direction of production staff during load-in, day to day operation and load out
  • Plan and draw site layouts and floor plans
  • Determine and secure necessary permits, licenses, documentation and insurance
  • Prepare quotes, cost items and maintain production operating budget
  • Source and select vendors and suppliers and manage contracts
  • Maintain and file a detailed production log and write a detailed postmortem
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Execute the highest services standards, policies and procedures for the Event Production area as they relate to the TIFF Visitor Experience Strategy

Contract Dates: June 23, 2014 to September 19, 2014

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in live event production and technical production management
  • Minimum 5 years experience producing large scale cultural events and high profile outdoor events
  • Minimum 3 years leadership and supervisory experience
  • Extensive experience creating and managing detailed production schedules
  • Excellent technical understanding of A/V, lighting, staging, rigging and outdoor installations
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to lead and give direction effectively
  • Strong scheduling and budgetary management skills
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and is able to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relations with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Mac OS, Google Docs, Excel, AutoCAD, SketchUp)
  • Familiarity with City bylaws and relevant legislation in the areas of Health and Safety, Employment Standards and collective agreements
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Ability to maintain broad focus while attending to detail
  • Ability to work and respond well in fast-paced and high pressure environments
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule including early mornings, evenings and weekends
  • Understanding and commitment to superior client servicing
