ACTORS’ SANDBOX AUDITIONS @ PAL’s Crest Theatre Green Room
The Actor’s Sandbox provides a free (donations to PAL suggested), private place for seasoned actors to practice their craft. Weekly meetings are moderated by one or two ‘mentors’ and all members are encouraged to contribute supportive feedback and ask questions of those rehearsing to help further the work of all involved in the group.
Our pilot program of The Actors Sandbox will commence with auditions on the afternoon/evening of June 11th, 2014 – & continue the week of June 23rd – at PAL (Toronto’s Performing Arts Lodge), 110 The Esplanade. Weekly meetings will take place over 10 weeks from July 2nd – September 10th, and conclude with a performance of scene work developed over the course of the period.
Auditions will consist of a 2-3 minute scene (no longer please) taken from a contemporary playwright’s work (not something you have written yourself) and shall involve a scene partner who may or may not also be auditioning. If your scene lasts longer than 4 minutes you will be cut off by the audition panel.
The panel will consist of the founders of the program – Pamela Hyatt (RADA, LAMDA, Stratford, 56 year career in stage and film), and Mandy May Cheetham (Strasberg, Second City, UCB, Berg Studios, award winning film and stage actress). Also providing guidance during the auditions will be L. Dean Ifill (producer, director, actor, voiceover artist). The purpose of the auditions is to help find other like-minded individuals whose work reflects a like-minded work-ethic and something deeper than just indicating the language of the text. Subtext, behaviour and discovery will be sought within the work.
Weekly meetings will consist of a warm up, and the rehearsal of scenes chosen by the members with a partner (or partners) from within the group. We will work the same scene – with the same partner – for the full 10 weeks where possible. The first 4 weeks will be exploration and development. For the final 6 weeks we will invite visiting acting coaches and directors to act as moderators and provide feedback on the scenes. Once in the group – actors are welcome to choose scenes from any genre.
The meetings will run from 7-10PM each Wednesday with a PWYC donation per meeting to PAL – in exchange for PAL’s generous support of our group through the provision of rehearsal and performance space.
All actors, regardless of age or union status, are invited to request an audition – we will only have about 30 audition slots so it is a great idea to pair up with someone else who wishes to audition for the group, but not mandatory. We will take 18 or fewer individual actors into the group for this inaugural session.
Preference for auditions will be given to those actors who demonstrate significant training and experience on their resumes.
Please email resume, headshot and brief cover letter outlining why you feel this would be a useful experience for you, and who you will be auditioning with, before June 15th, 2014 to email@example.com
