Audition: “Spamalot” Extension, Lower Ossington Theatre

The Lower Ossington Theatre has extended our current production of “Spamalot”, due to overwhelming demand! We are looking to cast 3 principal roles for the extension dates.

When:

  • Auditions: Wednesday July 9th
  • Show Runs: August 21 – September 21.

Storyline:
A ridiculously hilarious musical comedy, lovingly ripped off from the film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”. Includes songs such as “Find Your Grail”, “Finland” / “Fisch Schlapping Dance”, “The Song That Goes Like This” and “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”.

Patsy
30-45.  The low-class trusty servant to King Arthur.  He’s a bit dim but full of heart. Strong Baritone with a Cockney accent.  Must be strong enough to handle a considerable amount of weight on his back at all times. Strong tap dancing is required.  He also plays the Mayor of Finland.

Sir Bedevere
25 – 45.  A knight of the round table.  He’s a bit of a twit.  He’s the brains of the operation and has believes strongly in his own incomparable intelligence.  A baritone with a stuffy British accent.   Bedevere also plays Mrs. Galahad, an old worn-down cockney woman with a fiery streak, and Concorde, Lancelot’s trusty low-class servant.

Sir Robin
25 – 35.  Robin is a coward and a fop.  He loves singing and dancing and continually craps himself at the first sign of danger.  RP accent.  He also plays a lower-class version of himself before he becomes a knight (London Estuary accent), Brother Maynard – a precise and strident monk – and guard #1 – A Yorkshire guard who has trouble with the simplest instructions.  Robin is a high baritone.

Performers who are strong singers/actors/dancers who can cover a wide variety of track and characters.

Those selected for an audition will be required to prepare one comedic musical theatre song, no more than 32 bars and a one minute comedic monologue. If you require accompaniment for your audition, please provide sheet music, in a binder, that is double sided and properly marked. Rehearsals will begin immediately.

Organization:

The Lower Ossington Theatre is a Non-Equity theatre which provides a $100.00 rehearsal honorarium and a $40.00/show honorarium (to cover travel and other ancillary costs).

The Lower Ossington Theatre is focused on creating opportunities for young performers, many of whom are recent graduates of top university & college theatre programs across Canada.

The aim of the LOT is to be the next step for young professionals graduating or continuing in theatre schools. We aim to bridge the gap by providing recent graduates and other young artists with opportunities to build their resumes and to continue their theatrical education by working with professional directors, designers, choreographers and artists in a professional theatrical environment within Toronto’s theatre community.
