Job Posting: Communications Manager, Arts Etobicoke

This new, permanent position reports to the Executive Director of Arts Etobicoke.

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for planning, development and implementation of all the organization’s marketing strategies, marketing communications, public and media relations.


  • Liaise with Executive Director, Staff and Board to create a communications strategy
  • Liaise outside the organization with project partners and funders
  • Develop and update communications plan and budget
  • Media relations: manage media lists, write press releases, coordinate media events, develop press kits, coordinate media requests, prepare speaking notes and act as the organization’s representative
  • Develop and maintain on-line communications: website, newsletter, social media, on-line distribution lists
  • Develop and implement strategy for storefront street awareness
  • Develop all print materials: Annual Report, Etobicoke Guardian insert (5 times per year), event & program collateral (catalogues, invitations, brochures, signage, etc.)
  • Develop and refine core messages to expand promotion of programs and ensure organizational consistency
  • Provide communications support for marketing of the Art Rental program, for donor communications and grant writing
  • Coordinate photo and video documentation needs
  • Coordinate all arts advocacy information and materials
  • Coordinate internal communications
  • Maintain inventory of office stationary (letterhead, business cards) and promotional materials (t-shirts and buttons)
  • Maintain records of communications materials, activities, etc.
  • Conduct relevant market research, monitor trends


  • Post secondary degree in communications or related field and experience in communications
  • Interest in and understanding of community arts
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills
  • Superior team player, willing to support, cooperate and collaborate with Board, Staff and volunteers
  • Superior communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with communications planning, budget creation and budget control
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong ability in visual design, event coordination and social media
  • Experience in liaising with senior, programming and development staff to develop content and obtain approvals
  • Experience writing press releases, making presentations and negotiating with media
  • Experience in liaising with suppliers and contractors: publicists, graphic designers, printers, website company, photographers, videographers
  • Experience with website content management systems
  • Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications
  • Strong computer skills in a MAC environment, including Word, Excel.
  • Experience with InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop and proven ability to create promotional materials
  • Excellent attention to detail, proofreading
  • Ability to manage a variety of tasks and multiple deadlines
  • Evening and weekend work is required periodically
