dance: made in canada / fait au canada Festival presents its first off-year event this August. ‘Light and Shadow’ will provide a platform for dialogue between Light and Choreography. Lighting Designer, Arun Srinivasan will facilitate two evening workshops for professional dance artists that focuses on lighting design for contemporary dance. This would also be an excellent opportunity for professional designers who wish to become better acquainted with the specifics of design for dance.
The Winchester St. Theatre will be our classroom. Workshop participants will explore the collaborative and shared possibilities of how lighting in a dance work can affect the work’s artistic intent, mood and overall feeling, and as a result affect an audience’s interpretation. Workshops are practical and will cover basic design skills, including how to approach a dance work, how to work within a festival scenario and how to communicate and work with designers.
