Audition: EVITA, The Lower Ossington Theatre

The Lower Ossington Theatre is holding auditions for their upcoming production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award winning musical EVITA, which opens OCTOBER 9th on the LOWER OSSINGTON THEATRE MAINSTAGE.

Directed by Heather Braaten, EVITA concentrates on the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón, the second wife of Argentine president Juan Perón. The story follows Evita’s early life, rise to power, charity work, and eventual death.

The musical began as a rock opera concept album released in 1976. Its success led to productions in London’s West End in 1978, winning the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical, and on Broadway a year later, where it was the first British musical to receive the Tony Award for Best Musical.

Seeking:
Very strong vocalists with a clear sense of their range and limitations. Strong dancers/movement theatre performers with interest in ensemble work. All roles are being considered. Latin dance experience is an asset. If you play a musical instrument, please make that clear in your application.

Preparation:
Please prepare two contrasting songs (musical theatre, rock or pop styles). 32 bars in length with music properly marked, double-sided, and in a binder as an accompanist is provided. Also, prepare one monologue that is no longer than 1.5 minute in length. If you plan to accompany your own audition, please indicate that in your submission email.

The Lower Ossington Theatre is a Non-Equity theatre which provides a $100.00 rehearsal honorarium and a $40.00/show honorarium (to cover travel and other ancillary costs).

The Lower Ossington Theatre is focused on creating opportunities for emerging performers, many of whom are recent graduates of top university & college theatre programs across Canada.

The aim of the LOT is to be the next step for young professionals graduating or continuing in theatre schools. We aim to bridge the gap by providing recent graduates and other young artists with opportunities to build their resumes and to continue their theatrical education by working with professional directors, designers,choreographers and artists in a professional theatrical environment within Toronto’s theatre community.
