Workshop: The Chekhov Experience, Brenda Bazinet

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is a scene study class focusing on the works of Anton Chekhov. For seven classes the scenes will be explored through round the table discussions and rehearsals, ending with a final presentation in a historic building on the eighth class. The actors will be challenged to find the authentic self within the scene, to take chances, and above all, to move inward and find the truth beneath the words.

INSTRUCTOR: Brenda is a Gemini Award-winning actor, four-time Dora Nominee, a sought-after acting instructor and a critically-acclaimed theatre director, with over 30 years experience in the business. She has explored the plays of Chekhov for over 10 years and taught Chekhov Intensives across the country. Brenda has taught acting for the acclaimed Citadel/Banff Academy, George Brown Theatre School, Ryerson University (Act II), Fanshawe College, Equity Showcase, Actraworks, Actors Workshop, Armstrong Acting Studio, Theatre Ontario and Humber College (Acting for Film and Television Program) and was the Actor Mentor for the Women in the Director’s Chair Program at the Banff Centre.

Some favourite directing credits include the critically acclaimed production of The Penelopiad (Citadel Theatre); Munsched!! (George Brown Theatre School); Of The Fields Lately (Sudbury Theatre Centre); The Sea (Actors Repertory Company); Three SistersProblem ChildSplendor in the Grass (Fanshawe College). Upcoming, Brenda will be directing The Ladies Foursome at the Grand Theatre in London.

As an actor, her theatre credits include: Long Day’s Journey Into Night, Death of a Salesman, The Goat, Equus (Citadel Theatre); (Harvest, Uncle Vanya) Persephone Theatre); Hamlet (Resurgence Theatre); Ring Round the Moon, The Wild Duck (Soulpepper); End of Civilization (Factory Theatre); Leaving Home (Blyth Festival).

She has appeared in over 100 TV and film productions. Credits include: The Next Step, Degrassi, Saving Hope, HavenFlashpointBurn UpCustodySins of the Father, This is WonderlandRabbittown and A Grief Shared (Gemini Award).
