Job Posting: Managing Director, Toronto Children’s Chorus

Toronto Children’s Chorus seeks applications for the position of Managing Director.

Toronto Children’s Chorus (TCC) is recognized as one of the leading choral ensembles for children, performing with an artistry that inspires audiences and critics alike. The TCC provides life-enhancing experiences through the study and performance of the choral art, and stands as a model in the international children’s choir movement. The TCC has flourished for over thirty-five years through the dedication and artistic leadership of its founder, Jean Ashworth Bartle, and its current artistic director, Elise Bradley.


Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director ensures the successful operations of the TCC by planning, organizing and directing all Fund-raising, Marketing, Financial, and Administrative activities, in line with the strategic goals of the organization.   A close, collaborative working relationship with the Artistic Director is essential to the success of the Managing Director role and the future of the TCC.

Responsibilities include: overseeing all aspects of the administration functions of the organization; setting and managing budgets, developing a high functioning administrative team, creating an effective annual operating plan including the yearly calendar, marketing and communications, development, and human resources, and providing leadership in developing and executing the strategic plan

Funding for the TCC’s $1.25M budget is secured through fundraising activities, chorister tuition, corporate and foundation contributions, donations and grants from the Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council, Canada Council for the Arts and Ontario Trillium Foundation. Under the direction of the Artistic Director and the Managing Director, the choir employs one full-time artistic and five administrative positions and over a dozen part-time artistic assistants, accompanists and conductors.

The TCC draws choristers from the Greater Toronto Area. The TCC comprises seven levels: KinderNotes, Preparatory, Training Choirs I, II, III, Main Choir and a Youth Choir. From the  total chorister body of approximately 300 children, up to 65 children with superior vocal and music skills are accepted each year into the choir’s touring and recording ensemble, the Chamber Choir.

Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have a background in choral or classical music administration, experience in working with young people, and a degree in arts and/or business management or equivalent experience in cultural management.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience with (1) leading and managing administrative staff; (2) planning and managing multiple projects and timelines in an artistic organization; and (3) communicating effectively and discreetly with diverse stakeholders (parents of children, guest artists, board members, donors, granting agencies).
