Immediate full-time position available for a Development Officer

THE POSITION

Responsibilities:
Reporting to, and working in conjunction with, the Director of Development, the Development Officer will be an integral part of the Development Team who are responsible for the planning, development and execution of Soulpepper’s Fundraising campaigns. The Development Officer will have responsibility for specific fundraising projects and appeals within the full development portfolio as well as manage a pool of Donors and Prospects across all giving areas (Corporate, Individual and Foundation). S/he will work collaboratively with the other members of the Development Department, Senior Staff and Volunteers (Board of Directors) to the benefit of Soulpepper’s fundraising goals.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manages a pool of current Donors to ensure a high rate of annual gift, foundation grant,
    and/or sponsorship renewal and executes strategies to increase and upgrade those donations at appropriate intervals
  • Manages a pool of Prospects through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and
    stewardship of new contributions
  • Provides hands-on support to Board Members and senior volunteers to achieve the
    objectives of the development program
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with donors and volunteers and provides
    support in cultivating prospects through targeted events, tours, visits and meetings
  • Attends select Soulpepper performances, receptions and events as required to develop
    relationships with Donors and Patrons
  • Within the Development team participates in the creation, execution, evaluation and
    follow-up of all fundraising events and donor activities
  • Responds to all stakeholder enquiries in a prompt and professional manner
  • Supports and facilitates the work of the fundraising committees of the Board through
    coordination of meetings and preparation of support material for the Board and
    Committee volunteers involved with Fundraising Campaigns, including providing
    accurate and timely follow up from these meetings
  • Documents prospect research and all moves management activity in Tessitura database

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Understanding and familiarization with fundraising management software, ideally
    Tessitura
  • Familiarity and Understanding with Canada Revenue Agency policies and procedures
    governing fundraising.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook and Excel
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit fundraising practices and principles. Including moves
    management and the construction of sponsorship properties and stewardship plans
  • Understanding of the Toronto philanthropic and sponsorship community including
    key organizations and the foundation and corporate donation cycle
  • Strong proficiency with and commitment to customer service
  • Proven skills in relationship management and donor development
  • Strong decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational, time-management and team building skills
  • Superior interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
  • Self-starter, detail oriented, flexible
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to thrive and have a sense of humour in a fast-paced work environment with
    multiple deadlines

Education/Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and
    professional experience
  • Three years related experience in fundraising, preferably in an arts organization
