The annual Siminovitch Prize celebrates and honours excellence and innovation in Canadian theatre by recognizing an artist who has made a significant contribution to theatre in Canada. The $100,000 prize money is to provide support and stimulate future work by the winner. The Prize also acknowledges the importance of mentorship by allocating $25,000 of that money to a protégé early in his or her career.
This year we shine the spotlight on the Playwright, to highlight the vision, originality, thoughtfulness, craft, impact on audiences, and influence on the theatre that this role entails.
The Siminovitch Prize in Theatre is Canada’s national theatre arts award, given annually to a playwright, director or designer.
Founded in 2001, the Prize is dedicated to the distinguished scientist Dr. Lou Siminovitch and his late wife Elinore, a playwright.
